Todd Stashwick Ready to Return for Star Trek: Legacy Spinoff
One of the most beloved captains in the Star Trek universe may be returning, as actor Todd Stashwick is excited to come back for the long dreamed of Star Trek: Legacy spinoff. Stashwick is best known for his role as the demanding Captain Liam Shaw in Star Trek: Picard Season 3. Despite having been killed by the Borg his character, the actor is interested in reprising the role even as a holographic version call the “Shawlogram.” As discussions and fan petitions for Legacy are heating up, Stashwick is among the other stars from the cast Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd and Ed Speleers who are eager to get the greenlight and potentially bring the next generation of Star Trek heroes back to our screens.
The “Shawlogram” Concept
Even after Captain Shaw was killed, Stashwick and Star Trek: Picard Season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas teased a creative way to bring the character back.At the STLV: Trek to Vegas Con in August, they announced that Shaw would be back as an Emergency Engineering Hologram or as Stashwick jokingly referred to it, a ”Shawlogram”
I love workin’. I love the character of Shaw. I love the Star Trek universe, and I love all the people that… If someone decides to greenlight this project, and populates it with all the folks that the Legacy show would have: Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Ed Speleers, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, Mica Burton, It would be a treat to work with those people. “If that means being as a hologram, and it goes toward my health and pension, I’m there,” Stashwick stated.
According to CBR, the actor stressed that his involvement depends on the spinoff being right and including the core cast from Picard Season 3, Jeri Ryan as Captain Seven of Nine, Michelle Hurd as Commander Raffi Musiker and the younger cast that won over fans.
What We Know About Star Trek: Legacy
Star Trek: Legacy would have continued directly from Picard Season 3, trailing Seven of Nine as she captains the newly renamed USS Enterprise-G. The suggested series was to include Raffi Musiker, Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), and Lt. Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) amongst the new generation continuing the Star Trek legacy.
Terry Matalas has made no secret of his involvement, revealing at STLV that he penned roughly 30 pages for “the first 20 minutes” for the Legacy pilot. While the show runner has made it clear that the series is not currently being developed, he did reveal that the story would involve the Klingon Empire and would address some long-standing mysteries; one of those being Captain Seven’s warp catchphrase.
Cast Members Remain Hopeful
Stashwick is not the only one excited. Jeri Ryan has made it very clear that she would love to come back as Captain Seven of Nine to the fans she said to ”never say never” when asked about the spinoff.Michelle Hurd responded in kind at Spacecon (San Antonio) claiming, “Jeri and I both want Legacy so badly,” and expressing gratitude to fans for keeping the dream alive through petitions and social media campaigns.
Ed Speleers (Jack Crusher) has also expressed excitement to continue with the character. The actor is convinced the spinoff will come “at some point” if fans stay “loud about it,” pointing out that there are a “million more stories” he could tell with his character.

Why Legacy Hasn’t Been Greenlit
Even though fans and the cast are eager and excited to have it, Star Trek: Legacy is still on hold. The series is not in development at Paramount+ at this time, which has instead turned its attention to other projects, including Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, launching in January 2026.
From the look of it, the Paramount + Skydance Media merger says stay tuned on new projects for now. However a some industry observers that perhaps the change in leadership might eventually be beneficial for Legacy if the new owners realize the huge demand from fans for the series.
Brent Spiner’s Optimism
Spiner said that since the show would be centered largely on the younger cast with Jeri Ryan at its head, the original Next Generation actors would probably “pop in and out”.
Michelle Hurd emphasized this at Spacecon, commenting, “This Is How Things Happen, You Guys, Your Voice Actually Does Impact The Studios”. Her comments are in reference to the long history of Star Trek being brought back from the dead by fan driven revivals, including the legendary letter writing campaign that saved the original series from cancellation and the demand for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Conclusion
While Paramount adjusts to its new ownership structure under Skydance, the constant excitement from fans and creators alike who get to call Picard Season 3 home definitely keeps the dream of Star Trek: Legacy alive. Meanwhile, Todd Stashwick waits for the phone to ring to put on his holographic uniform as the “Shawlogram,” the Star Trek fan community continues to hope that Captain Seven of Nine and her team will one day get the chance to venture to the final frontier as a group.
